Daemons: Speed + Force = Win

November 30, 2009

Or so I hope. I’m really closing in on my 2.5k target list for building the Daemon army. Almost all Khorne and Slaanesh, the one Tzeench unit (screamers) I think might be coming out as well, since they’re the only Tzeench it just feels funny having them in there from a fluff standpoint.

So far for the list I’m looking at

  • Bloodthirster to lead
  • Hearld of Khorne (skulltaker model, already have, or might do a conversion)
  • Hearld of Slaanesh (conversion build)
  • The Masque
  • Unit of 19 Bloodletters (herald here, core infantry, the center of the line)
  • Unit of 15 Bloodletters (core infantry)
  • Unit of 10 Daemonettes (flanking unit)
  • Unit of 5 furies (cheap and usefull)
  • 2 Units of 5 Khorne Hounds (shock cav, my heavy hitters)
  • 1 Unit of Tzeentch Screamers ( might be removed, not all that usefull + doesn’t fit with theme)
  • 4 Feinds of Slaanesh (super fast, can fight where needed against light troops)
  • 3 Bloodcrushers (really heavy cav, riding with Khorne Hounds)

And that’s 2k, not too many models, but what daemon army is really. I’m thinking this will be a quick army, an effective strong, if small infantry push with a lot of support to hit where and when needed. The slowest movement in the army is 5, and that’s just the bloodletters.

As for models, I already have 10 Daemonettes 4 fiends of Slaanesh, 10 Bloodletters and the Skulltaker model as well. I’m still trying to decide on an overall look for the army, so it might be a bit before I really get started with the painting. But I’m leaning towards a really dark look, with bright colorfull highlights. Hard to explain, but it’s kinda like Tim Burton meets Rob Zombie kinda thing… we’ll see if it works out.

The Last of the 2k

November 28, 2009

Started painting my final bolt thrower for the High Elf 2k list and started the base build for them. It’s going to end up being  a pretty big base, like my goblin spear chukka’s are, and pretty elevated, but I think it’ll turn out pretty sweet in the end. One of the crew has a map and the other is pointing, which makes me believe they choose the high ground, behind the rest of the army because they got lost on their way to the battle….

Progress wise, I got the machine itself done, and half done with one crewman. A few more hours on those guys, and a few on the base and I’ll be all set!

I’ll post pics soon. some WIP stuff with the base and where the painting is at.

Direction

November 27, 2009

Talked at an extensive length last night and yesterday with family about finishing the basement. Finally some answers, some direction, and most importantly the reason for doing things so. I’m being vague on purpose, mostly because I need to redo some work that has already been done. But it will all be worth it in the end and I’m now much more confident in the procedures and methods of just how to build these walls, insulate them and setup the vapor barrier. So it’s off to Menards to get some more materials, more wood, and start things up the right way.

PA-TV

November 24, 2009

Penny-Arcade has quite the amazing story. Two friends who started drawing and writing comics about video games, from an apartment they shared. Now it’s become a business, with employees, a real office, one of the industry’s leading video game expos, on two coasts now. And finally after all of that, we have Penny Arcade TV. A short little reality based, day in the life of, kinda program, on their site for free. It’s amazing what these guys have been able to accomplish.

They’re pretty good episodes, and they certainly let you meet the guys behind Tyco and Gabe. You can find the episodes here

KOTOR: MMO

November 23, 2009

The final classes have been leaked. And the Sith are looking super bad ass.

I’m a fanboy sure, but this is looking better and better, if just for total geekiness, every time I see it. Damn I can’t wait to run around as a Sith destroying everything in my path.

Hohenzolleran Brewing: The start.

November 17, 2009

Headed down to Point Brew Supply last night, picked up the start of my brew equipment. Going to give this a whirl on Saturday with an experienced friend. Starting with an ESB, English Special Brew, or something along those lines. Then I went ahead and picked up the ingredients for a Red brew as well.

I’m really excited to start brewing, and I’ll have more to say once we actually get into this a bit more.

A day in the life: 11-14/15

November 15, 2009

FD-6panelAdventures in randomland this weekend were, well, random. Got a lot of house stuff done, cut a hole in the wall and installed a door with a lot of Adam power. Was a pretty great project, except when we made the door hole about 1/2 inch too small, so we had to redo a bunch of it, which was certainly special. Remember out there to measure twice and build a wall once. While working on the door we noticed the furnace was leaking water, which isn’t really something you want your furnace to do, water being the opposite of fire and all. So we poked around, cleaned out the water trap and thought it was good to go. But when I woke up this morning to a furnace blowing cold air and the house in the 50’s, obviously something was still wrong. Got it all fixed up tonigth though, and I’d rather not mentioned what happened, I’ll only say it didn’t cost anything to get it working properly again…

Went to the dog park twice, which was great, Oliver did wonderfully with the other dogs, except for behaving like an old grouchy grandpa. I seems to not be able to keep up with the labs and other mid sized dogs there, they can turn too fast for him, and he’s not really sure how to act around puppies either. When 2 black lab puppies were playing, he tried to play with them which didn’t work at all and ended in him just barking at the little ones, ‘hey settle down kids, before someone gets hurt’. Then today he almost crushed an even smaller puppy by almost stepping on it.

Went super shopping, which is aweful this time of year. We’re not even close to doing holiday shopping yet, but everybody else seems to be. The stores are playing Christmas music already, 2 weeks prior to Thanksgiving, insane. Every store is so crowded it’s a pain in the ass to walk around and look at stuff, and even worse to checkout. But the good news is, it’s only going to get worse for the next 45 days or so before calming down. I think I may just resort to internet shopping this year.

I do have to say though that EiD’s holiday part was pretty cool. It’s early in the season, but correlates with Randy’s birthday, so that’s somehow ok in my mind. The store was amazing as always, save for a few rooms upstairs which Nicole’s has taken over. I’m pretty sure I don’t like them. Snobby ladies paying way too much for clothing. I heard their owner describing quite enthusiasticly how sexy and hot a pair of shoes were to some prospective customers. I obviously don’t get it. I think what bugs me most about Nicole’s being there is the different clientile they bring in. There’s just something about the women there I saw shopping the clothes verses the interior decor stuff that just rubbed me the wrong way. Something about them just seemed to not really mesh with me, all this without even talking to any of them, go prejustice.

Ahh well, other than those adventures, we went out to dinner at the Great Dane, and hung out with Kel’s siblings. Got a game of Warhammer in too, I’ll have a battle report coming soon over at Snake Eyes Box Cars.

work work work

November 11, 2009

computer_workall day long, work work work while I sing this song….

Anyways, been too busy at work the past few days to do anything with the basement or modeling or anything else really. The rest of the week will be the same, but I am hoping to stain the door I got for the basement tonight after volleyball.

Family outing with the inlaws this saturday and a great friends night out friday. This weekend is going to rock. It’s kinda nice not having weddings every weekend for a little while.
